Procrastination, A Bad Habit to Break

Indeed procrastination is an annoying and irritating habit that unfortunately makes you feel both good and worse. It is ironic that procrastination can make you feel temporarily good because you know there is always another time to prolong your work. Yet once you missed the deadlines you feel worst and a mixed of emotions just flood unto you and you feel GUILTY. There are a lot of factors that can make you procrastinate and number 1 is laziness and all things just fall into place. Here are four effective tips to avoid procrastination (and hopefully end it).

Tip # 1. Acknowledge Your Bad Habit

Acceptance of the habit instead of denying it is the first step to take in minimizing procrastination. It helps you to become aware of your bad habit and the gravity of it.

Ask yourself – How much of a procrastinator are you in the rate of 1 to 10 with 10 as the highest? How many opportunities did you missed because of it? Did you feel guilt or pleasure when you experienced it?

Now, I’m telling myself that I am a procrastinator, I am a procrastinator, … Nah, maybe later I am. (^^,)

Tip # 2. Kill ALL EXCUSES

I’m not a procrastinator, I was just this and that etc. Excuses will not save you and will not end your bad habit. It will make you rely more on making excuses and will also encourage you to procrastinate more. Kill all of your excuses and kill your procrastination.

If you have an assignment deadline and you have another appointment for that date. Do it beforehand and aim to finish it.

Tip # 3.  Stick to a plan and routine

If you want to succeed in minimizing your procrastination habits, make a plan and religiously stick with it. Also commit to a daily regimen to end your procrastination. Start with the first 28 days because this is the recommended number of days to end a bad habit.

Tip # 4.  Do It NOW!!!

Do you want to start a business? Writing? Budgeting? Studying? BUT you don’t seem to have the extra time to do so?

Face it you are just covering your PROCRASTINATION.

Stop using lack of time as an excuse and DO IT!

NOW.

Tip # 5. Take monitored short breaks in between

Dealing with procrastination is not an overnight process. It will be a gradual and consistent process that should not be taken in a shocking manner. Go easy and get some short breaks in between your work to do some other things. 15 to 20 minutes of break after 2 to 3 hours of work is good to cool off your brain. Depending on your preference it can be shorter or longer. Just make sure that your break will not go beyond and monitor it lest you’ll easily fall prey once again to procrastination.

There is still time to correct your bad habit as long as you are willing to embrace the difficulties you will encounter along the way. While writing this post, I am also struggling with the capital P. I may opt to sleep, to read, and to eat but I decided not to because I want to prove that it is possible to end capital P from controlling my decisions. It is always a struggle and it will always be but with enough faith, hope, and courage you will eventually KILL IT.
